Understanding the Times on RFID
For some time now I have been listening to the weekly podcast Understanding the Times by Olive Tree Ministries. This radio show offers background information on current political and social problems from a biblical view, especially regarding the topics Israel, Islam, etc., as well as critical evaluations of developments in Christianity.
Recently a guest gave an analysis on the future deployment of so-called RFID chips which can be used to automatically locate and track objects and people. The key statement to me was: Such a system is, in itself, neutral and certainly very beneficial for the economy – what will happen, however, if it gets into the wrong hands? Should the political development take a turn towards governments wanting to increase surveillance of their citizens even more, the infrastructure for that would be right there in the form of RFID (and others). That would be a point of no return.
